McDonald’s Texas Burger only in Japan
The movie Footloose is apparently set in Utah/Oklahoma, which I suppose is close enough to Texas to make its song appropriate for this McDonald’s “Big America” burger commercial:

(Pic) Japanese Hammock Cafe
Nick Currie points us to a rather interesting cafe concept. Mahika Mano is located in the Kichijoji area near Tokyo, and features hammocks in place of traditional seating.

And many, many, more….

Japanese Samurai Sword Cuts Six Fired Machine Gun Bullets in Half Before Breaking
A Japanese Samurai Sword is placed blade facing a machine gun.
The machine gun is fired at the sword and eventually breaks it, but NOT before the sword cuts the first six bullets in half.
Awesome youtube clip. And that’s how good Japanese can make things.
NICE!

New Japanese toy: Endless chocolate bar breaker
Do you like the feeling you get when you break a chocolate bar in half? Do you want to experience that feeling over and over for some reason? Then you’re in the target group for a new Japanese toy called Mugen Chokoreeto [JP], which (kind of) translates back to “Endless Chocolate Bar”. It’s the brainchild of major Japanese toymaker Bandai.

Japan January Booze
Finally, another event (taking place on the 16th at Shibuya’s Rocknococoro bar) has made a nice flyer mocking the anti-naughtiness “Please Do It at Home” signs that can be found on trains in Japan. These repressive signs always make me think “Please pull the stick out of your arse and chillax,” so it’s nice to see them being sent up.
I must have this poster!

Google auto-complete kind to Japan and China, not so fond of America
Search: Why is Japan so...
This list of adjectives looks pretty good for Japan, with only two of the 10 words ("weird" and "perverted") having a negative connotation. And some people might even argue that Japan's "weirdness" is a good thing.
Search: Why is China so...
China's results are surprisingly good considering the Internet's love of China bashing. Only "overpopulated", "polluted", and "poor" come up as negative adjectives.
Search: Why is America so...
No one can ever accuse Google's auto-complete of a bias toward its home country, tagging America with the following unflattering adjectives: "fat", "violent", "obese", "stupid", "racist", and "greedy".
Search: Why is Canada so...
As for my home country, adjectives ranged from "cold" and "expensive" to "boring" and "awesome". Not too bad.

Japanese automated baby crib
The 946 × 619 × 885mm 60kg bed has a built-in sensor to detect specifically a baby’s cry and the bed automatically starts swaying left and right to a width of about10cm. At first the bed does quick-paced rocking, then slowly settles into the pace of the mother’s heartbeat and eventually, it rocks slower and slower to a more sleep-inducing pace. If all goes according to plan, the baby should be asleep again within 15 minutes.
The bed was made in collaboration with Kyushu University and is for babies aged 2 weeks to 10 months old. If you’re in Japan, the bed can be purchased for 420,000 yen or rented for for 10,000 yen per month.

Japan Self-Defense Force Sunglasses
Want to look cool while knowing that your pair of shades will remain there even when you're thrown a really hard punch to the eyes? That's what the Japanese militarty is endorsing - the Japan Self-Defense Force Sunglasses
. Its lens won't fracture even if it is hit at 106mph by a 0.3" object - that's just how strong it is. Also, it is capable of holding up to a 500g piece of iron dropped on it without batting an eyelid. Would you fork out $317 for some virtually indestructible cool?
